VAT on charter fees
Change ahead?
The European Commission has requested a number of EU countries to revise their schemes for charging VAT on charters including international voyages. France and Italy have been asked to implement pro-rata reductions on charters outside EU waters. The pro-rata reduction will be based either on the time spent or on the distance covered inside/outside European waters.

In practical terms, as happened in 2013 when VAT on charter fees came into force, the authorities will publish a cut-off date from when the change will be applied. All contracts signed before this date won’t be affected. We have not yet been advised what the date is.

H&V Yachting is monitoring the situation and will keep you posted as soon as we have concrete information. Feel free to contact Thibault and Geraldine if you have any questions.
